From Warehouse To Wimbledon: Global Freight Magic

As we inch closer to the much anticipated annual Wimbledon Tennis Tournament, it would only be fitting to let you in on the collaboration between the Heneways global freight family and everybody’s favorite All England Lawn Tennis Club.

The work we have done and continue to do for this prestigious event reflects a clear visual of our capability to pull rabbits out of hats and tackle speed bumps head on. Without anyone getting into a “tizzy” - as the Brits like to say.

Not Quite As Easy As Riding A Bike

Events are not without their challenges, and Wimbledon is absolutely no exception. A lot goes into the powerplay and preparation for an event of such grandeur, from site maintenance to the ample and consistent procurement of merchandise. These challenges require out-of-the-box thinking and seasoned problem solving brains. Heneways brains!

Generally what would happen was that our UK team receives and stores merchandise from China and other suppliers for the Wimbledon Tournament prior to the first serve. We’re talking a rough 50-60 pallets accounted for to cover the full two weeks of the games. We ensure the shelves are stocked and then await the daily inventory lists to let us know what stock needs replenishing for the following day. Our team pulls together for a solid two to three hours each day to pick, pack, palletize and arrange the restock delivery well before the first serve on the following day.

Executing on this process keeps us on our toes on a good day, but as with anything in life, issues do arise. And when they do, we are quick to put our thinking caps on.

Just How Far Will We Go?

As a one-stop solution provider, we have to be prepared to go above and beyond within a moment's notice. That means that when 2,500 branded mugs end up at Wimbledon with incorrect barcodes on them, we are locked and loaded and ready to put 2,500 new barcodes on each individual mug..

It also means that when recycling the previous years' unsold dated teddy bears, we are printing new jumpers with the correct year and replacing them on each bear. Saving money for the client, reducing impact on the industry, and making sure each of the Wimbledon bears also find a home. Can’t have bears without homes now, can we? This is a common occurrence with merchandise that is leftover each year, so we’ve had ample experience in successfully reboxing and relabelling, making the most of what we have.

The Heneways Global Freight Heroes

Much to the surprise of many, we are only a team of six (legendary) people on the ground in the UK, working with Wimbledon as well as all of our other clients. While we have taken a break from this partnership for 2024, our UK reps have worked alongside the Wimbledon Tournament for eight years now, and it has been thrilling to say the very least. It is a privilege and an honour to work within a team of reliable forward-thinkers and we are proud to bring our unique Heneways solutions to the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

We don’t leave anybody out when things hit the net - we navigate each serve beside you and work towards winning the game together. So, how can our global freight team help you today? Make some time to chat with a member of our team today.
